A Millennials Guide to Insurance

It's an exciting time to be a millennial. These years are filled with defining experiences as one navigates a career, relationships, and life; with those come big decisions and purchases like a first home or an upgraded car. Luckily, The Weiser Agency team is equipped to help you find the right coverage for your lifestyle.

AN AGENCY THAT HAS YOUR BACK

Working with a trusted agency means having access to expert opinions rather than guessing how much coverage you need. We can conduct a risk assessment based on your current lifestyle and needs before we provide recommendations that will work with your budget.  The Weiser Agency offers a wide range of support for clients with team members specializing in initial setup, billing, claims, and reviewing coverages and plans for the unexpected. With a skilled and experienced team, you can be confident in knowing you have support every step of the way.

COVERAGE FIRST, PRICE SECOND

The first step in finding the right coverage is determining what kind of protection you need. Whether you are looking to cover high-valued items or own a business and need commercial insurance, Weiser can help you cover all your bases. It’s important that you have the right amount of coverage for your needs before considering costs. However, there may be discounts for clients who pay in full or choose to bundle different policies together, such as home and auto insurance. Weiser is aware of this, and we'll use our expertise and strategic approach to walk you through the best options. Together we'll find what policies best suit you and your lifestyle.

RETHINK LIFE INSURANCE

You're never too young to consider life insurance, and there are substantial benefits to purchasing it sooner rather than later. Waiting to buy a policy means you run the risk of a life-changing event that could impact cost or even prevent you from coverage altogether. Investing in some type of life insurance now, when you're younger today than you'll ever be, means your life insurance will likely be cheaper now than at any point in the future. Be mindful not to rely only on life insurance offered through work. While work-supported life insurance can be a great supplement to something you have on your own, you can't take it with you when you switch companies or retire. Trust Weiser to plan how to provide that sense of security for you and your family now and in the future.

COVER THE GAPS BEYOND BASIC COVERAGE

Homeowners and renters insurance offers coverage for your possessions, but it could be limited. Adding additional coverage for higher-value items such as expensive electronics, music equipment, an engagement ring, or sporting equipment (hello, electric bike) is recommended. Even a factor such as working from home might call for special liability coverage. While your home or renters insurance is designed to cover your personal property like clothing, furniture, kitchenware, electronics, etc., it is unlikely to replace a laptop, printer, or phone provided by your employer. If you're working from home, you'll want to check with your insurance carrier or agency to know where your coverage starts and ends to avoid surprises in the future.

DON'T SKIMP ON THE UMBRELLA POLICY

Umbrella insurance provides liability protection if involved in an accidental lawsuit. Feel confident in knowing your insurance has you covered for the unexpected when it comes to everything from hosting a party, letting a friend borrow your car, or taking your sweet pup to the dog park.

  • Pet liabilities. Owning a dog can pose a liability risk for dog bites or damage to another's property. Depending on the breed, not all dogs may be covered. To ensure everyone is protected, think ahead and follow up with your insurance agent to confirm your pet qualifies.

  • Hosting an event. While some of life's best moments happen when loved ones are gathered, entertaining comes with liability risks. Around 75% of homeowners who plan social gatherings in their homes do not have a personal umbrella policy. This makes them more vulnerable to lawsuits stemming from potential problems or injuries. If a friend has a few cocktails at your place and causes a car accident on the way home, you could be liable for the accident and will want to make sure you have proper liability protection, just in case.

  • Auto insurance. While we all aim to be safe drivers, we want to be able to trust our insurance to pay for the unexpected. If you're in a car accident, your insurance will only pay up to the limit specified on your insurance. The state of California only requires $15,000 in protection, which won't do much in a significant accident. You'd then be personally responsible for paying the damages owed to others injured in a car accident that costs more than the insured amount. If you can't pay what is owed, those you injure can take up to 25% of your all future earnings until the damage is paid off. Investing in a personal umbrella policy will help protect you during these unexpected times going beyond what your car insurance covers.

As an experienced insurance agency, we understand that your time is precious. Juggling a career, relationships, and hobbies can take up much of your time, and insurance might not come across your mind. Let The Weiser Agency help you find the right coverage that meets the
